FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® 103
FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® 103 has been approved for use under USDA-Forest Service Interim Specifications for Wildland Foams. FireFoam 103 has also been tested and approved for use by Canada Air in their CL-215 injection systems.
FireFoam® 103 has been used extensively throughout Canada in water bombing aircraft and ground application systems since 1987. There have been no reported health, safety, environmental, or corrosion problems associated with the use of this product. Water bombing aircraft, using a variety of foam injection systems have used FireFoam® 103 extensively and have not experienced any problems with the product degrading pump impellers or causing corrosion to any other parts of the injection systems.
FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® 103 has excellent long-term storage characteristics, and performance is not affected by repeated freeze-thaw cycles. FireFoam is used and over wintered in a wide variety of locations and conditions across Canada, including the Yukon and Northwest Territories. To date, there have not been any problems with performance or settling of the over wintered material.
FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® 103 has excellent foaming and penetration properties and has proven effective over a wide range of conditions. Users across Canada report that they routinely use FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® 103 at mix ratios from 0.2% to 0.5% in both fresh and salt water.
FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® 103 has undergone biodegradability testing as outlined in NFPA specifications 298. It is 50% biodegradable in 2.25 days and 90% biodegradable in 3 days.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® is a Class A liquid concentrate foaming agent combining ideal expansion, adhesion, stability, drainage and wetting characteristics. It is the latest in a long line of FIRE-TROL® products designed for ground and aerial fire suppression. FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® is the result of extensive laboratory and field-testing in consultation with fire suppression experts from around the world. FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® combines excellent insulating characteristics with quarter and half time drainage rates that ensure thorough and deep wetting of treated fuels. The brilliant white colour provides good target identification for aerial application.
MIXING
Mix ratios will vary from 0.1% in Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS) to 0.7% for some aerial application systems.
FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® is readily dispersible and requires no specialized mixing equipment. It is compatible with existing injection systems and foam nozzles such as the FIRE-TROL® models.
FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® was formulated to minimize the impact of water hardness, salinity and temperature on expansion and drainage rates. It has been successfully mixed with FIRE-TROL® 931, 934 and 936 long-term liquid concentrate fire retardants.
HANDLING
The handling, shipping and storage properties of FIRE-TROL® FireFoam® are enhanced by its high flash point (greater than 93C) and excellent shelf life. It can be used at temperatures down to the freezing point of water and if frozen can be thawed and used.
Corrosion rates on aluminum, steel and brass are less than those required under U.S. Forest Service specifications.
SAFETY
FIRE-TROL® Fire-Foam® is biodegradable and environmentally safe. When normal handling precautions are used there are no undue health or safety hazards.
