Discharge Eductor
Fire-Trol Canada Company has developed an inexpensive, efficient foam eductor for use on the discharge side of many common fire pumps. The discharge eductor can be installed at the pump or along the hose lay if desired.
Testing has indicated that the discharge eductor will work with Fire-Trol Canada Company FT-MF and FT-HF nozzles and will produce foam at distances up to 300 feet with the FT-MF nozzle and up to 600 feet with the FT-HF nozzle. The discharge eductor has also been tested with a gravity system.
As with any piece of equipment, the discharge eductor does have some limitations. It is affected by back pressure resulting from the length of the hose lay, elevation or an inadequate nozzle size.
The advantages of the discharge will far outweigh any disadvantages. The discharge eductor eliminates the need for foam concentrate to be inducted through the pump and allows users to move foam concentrates away from critical water sources. The eductor is not affected by head pressure and can be used on tank trucks where the pump is below the water source. This eliminates the need for costly around the pump foam systems. The discharge eductor restricts the volume of water and will assist in conserving water where supplies are limited. Finally, the eductor will give protection personnel the option of using foam when considering the use of gravity systems.
